Human Resource Development

The most significant factor contributing to the success of DVC so long is its human resources. Since inception, DVC is a major source of providing employment to a large number of individuals in various disciplines like engineering, technical, accounts & finance, general categories & skilled / unskilled local people. DVC is proud to have succeeded in motivating the workforce and bringing the best out of them.

As on 31st March 2006 DVC’s total employee strength stands at 11169. The focus of human resource development in the Damodar Valley Corporation has been changing in tune with the rapidly changing external environment.

Man: MW Ratio

The overall Man :MW ratio in the year 2005-06 was 3.76 as against 3.8 in the year 2004-05.

Training

DVC has a Training Institute of its own at Chandrapura having requisite infrastructure. Various training capsules for upgradation of skills are being conducted at the training institute. Employees are also sent for training to other institutions run by the Government of India or private agencies. In the year 2004-05 a large number of engineers, medical officers, accounts personnel were sent for training in prestigious institutions like PMI, NOIDA, NTPC, NIFM, CII, ESCI, ICWAI etc. DVC also conducts in-house training programmes at its Headquarters.

DVC has taken up massive programme of computerization in all the projects, field formations and its headquarters. Appropriate training is being imparted to the existing employees for using computer towards the complete automation of all systems of work in the near future.

Education Facilities

The following educational facilities are offered to the children of the employees of DVC:

Three plus two schools
Nine high schools
Eight middle level schools
Two primary schools
Three Kendriya Vidyalayas

All these schools are run by donations and one time grant from DVC.

Medical Facilities and services

DVC provides the following facilities and services to its employees and their dependents:

Six hospitals set up by DVC's Medical Department at CTPS,MTPS,DTPS,Maithon and Panchet.
Eight dispensaries at Bermo,Tiliya,Konar,Putki,Jamshedpur,Howrah, Hazaribagh and Headquarters(DVC Towers)
Dispensaries manned by General Duty Medical Officers, specialists and part-time doctors
Three mobile medical clinics
One Public Health Department
OPD treatment in DVC hospitals and dispensaries
Major and minor operations in the hospitals
Treatment by specialists
Pathological and radiological investigations
Three reserved beds at ThakurPukur Cancer Research Centre.
Patients referred to Super Specialist hospitals at Kolkata, Vellore, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hydrabad at Bangalore.

Public Health

Public Health Department situated at Panchet undertakes the following programmes:

Monitoring of water pollution and anti-malarial work.
Implementation of immunization programme, family planning and other programmes under the National Health Policy.
Conducting camps on family planning, eye, cancer awareness, TB awareness, Aids awareness, pulse-polio immunization etc. in collaboration with respective State Government, Indian Medical Association and Lions Club.
